Loberro: the Mysterious Wolf-Dog of Pre-Hispanic Mexico
Among temples, offerings, and ancient ceremonial cities, archaeologists discovered mysterious canids in pre-Hispanic Mexico with characteristics intermediate between dogs and wolves: the “loberros.” Were they real hybrids? What significance did they hold for Mesoamerican cultures? In this article, we explore the archaeological discoveries, their possible connection to rituals and warfare, and the symbolism that made these animals one of the most fascinating and enigmatic figures in Mexican archaeology.
